2017 YOUNG ARTIST’S COMPETITION WINNER
Andrew Y. Kim, cello
Andrew Y. Kim is 10 years old and is excited to make his debut today as soloist with the Metrowest Symphony Orchestra as the winner of the 2017 Metrowest Young Artist Competition. Andrew started learning to play the cello at age 6, quickly developing a passion for music and performing. Andrew has served as Principal Cellist of the Weston School Orchestra as well as the Rivers Conservatory Preparatory and Sinfonia Youth Orchestras, and he has performed chamber music at the Rivers Summer Music Program. Already at a young age, Andrew has enjoyed performing at the Rivers Conservatory, Jordan Hall at the New England Conservatory, Regis College, Weston Musicfest, the Weston Brook Apartments and the Natick Mall. In his free time, Andrew enjoys playing with his sister, brother and friends, playing basketball and tennis, video games and reading. Andrew currently studies with Ronald Lowry at the Rivers School Conservatory. He is in the fourth grade at the Field School in Weston, MA.
