Here are the the roles we’ve created, based on operational needs, which are still open. View definitions and details below. Contact the MSO Program Manager if you are interested in fulfilling your MSO membership requirements through one of these positions:

Operations Manager:

Responsibilities: coordinates the efforts of the following volunteers, assuring their work is being completed on time and within budget (where applicable). Also manages personnel commitments around each concert. First layer of contact and escalation for any bottlenecks or issues.

Estimated time commitment:  1 -2 hours / week [slightly more around concerts, less at other times]

Credit against Membership Commitment:   $ 250

Venue Coordinator:

Responsibilities:   coordinates the scheduling of venues for concerts & rehearsals each concert season. Serves as the point of contact for any requests for changes in scheduling, special access, and lobby functions (sound & lighting, Orchestra Guild, etc.).

Estimated time commitment:   5 hours around each concert [w/ other activity at additional times]

Credit against Membership Commitment:   $ 250

Transportation Manager:

Responsibilities:   coordinates concert transportation needs for student musicians secured by the Music Director. This includes the responsibility for recruiting volunteers to assist with actual transportation to and from events, communications with students, etc.

Estimated time commitment:   5 hours around each concert

Credit against Membership Commitment:   $ 250

Finance & Administration (Treasurer):

Responsibilities: manages the day-to-day finances of the organization, assuring on-line account system is current. Coordinates the efforts of the following volunteers, assuring their work is being completed on time and within budget (where applicable). Prepares quarterly financial report for Board of Directors. First layer of contact and escalation for any bottlenecks or issues.

Estimated time commitment: 1 -3 hours / week [slightly more around concerts, less at other times]

Credit against Membership Commitment: $ 250

Program Book / Concert Promotions Coordinator:

Responsibilities:   coordinates the development of promotional collateral (posters) and booklet contents (cover design, program notes, raffle item list, ad placement & overall layout) to be completed within budget and on time (no later than 4 weeks before each concert), supplementing late changes via production of a program insert. Manages production and delivery of materials to other coordinators for ultimate distribution.

Estimated time commitment:   1 -2 hours / week [slightly more around production dates]

Credit against Membership Commitment:   $ 250

Advertising Coordinator:

Responsibilities:   coordinates the distribution of all posters (to orchestra members and posting in public venues), the creation and scheduling of any e-mail or paid advertising campaigns, and scheduling of any other advertising channels no later than 4 weeks before each concert. May need to solicit and manage other volunteers to actually perform some of the above functions.

Estimated time commitment:   1 -2 hours / week [slightly more around production dates]

Credit against Membership Commitment:   $ 250

Fundraising & Development Manager:

Responsibilities:   coordinates the efforts of the following volunteers, assuring their work is being completed on time and within budget (where applicable). First layer of contact and escalation for any bottlenecks or issues, and ultimately responsible for assuring fundraising / income goals are achieved.

Estimated time commitment:   1 -2 hours / week

Credit against Membership Commitment:   $ 250

Corporate Development / Advertising Sales:

Responsibilities:   Creates corporate underwriting & advertising program kits for use by all MSO members to solicit corporate support. Communicates as needed with corporate sponsors and advertisers to coordinate logistics and assure they receive proper recognition / benefits. Forwards monthly report of new commitments to Board of Directors, President, Treasurer, and Program Book / Concert Promotions Coordinator.

Estimated time commitment:   1 hour / week

Credit against Membership Commitment:   $ 250

Annual Campaign Chairperson:

Responsibilities:   Coordinates volunteer & outreach efforts to solicit individual donations from the greater Metrowest community each fall (letter campaign or other format).

Estimated time commitment:   3 -5 hours / week around campaign dates only

Credit against Membership Commitment:   $ 250

Concert Raffle Coordinator:

Responsibilities:   coordinates the solicitation of concert raffle items no later than 4 weeks before each concert, maintains a centralized list of donors’ contact information & items provided, sends written acknowledgement to donors, coordinates the selling of raffle tickets at each concert or special event.

Estimated time commitment:   various hours throughout season

Credit against Membership Commitment:   $ 250

Fundraising Event Chairs:

Responsibilities:   Through the course the season, event chairs will be needed to organize and complete short-term fundraising projects (such as last year’s Manhattan condo raffle). These needs will vary from year to year and coordinated by the Fundraising & Development Manager.

Credit against Membership Commitment:   $ 100 per Fundraising Event
